Breeding programs implemented within zoo parks to facilitate the reproduction and care of animals within a controlled environment.

In general, captive breeding in the Zoo for conservation purpose has its limits. Every Zoo has its own problems and constraints of financial, physical and human resources. These resources will decide the number of species and the number of individuals in each species that can be supported in the Zoo.

Four horned Antelope (Chowsingha) were brought from Tadvai, which were rescued and kept in this Zoo in the year 2007. After that one more rescued Chowsingha kept in the same enclosure and made a separation from another species to develop the breed. Since then, Four horned Antelopes are breeding regularly in the Zoo. Since 2010, several orphaned fawns, initially rescued from the shepherds and the wild, have been raised by the zoo staff through hand feeding and attentive care. The veterinary team has conscientiously managed their breeding process in a scientific manner to prevent inbreeding.

And this zoo has given a pair of four horned Antelope to Nehru Zoological Park, Hyderabad, Sri Venkateshwara Zoological Park, Thirupathi, Andhra Pradesh and Indira Gandhi Zoological Park, Visakhapatnem, Andhra Pradesh for change of blood line. This zoo has been improving the conservation of breeding activity of this species. We’re currently strategizing to acquire Zoo animals with other zoos across different parks in India.

For the first time, Ostrich bred in the Zoo in 2013. The First pair of Ostrich was brought from Nehru Zoological Park, Hyderabad as part of animal exchange programme under Zoo Authority in the year 2013. Since then, Ostrich is breeding regularly in the Zoo. This zoo exchanged a pair of ostriches with Sri Venkateshwara Zoological Park, Thirupathi and got White peafowl, Grey Jungle fowl, Alexandrine parakeet, Cockatiels and Love birds. White Rhea birds (1:2) also exchanged with the Ostrich birds (1:2).

During the past 33 years the Zoo has bred a number of species in captivity. Many of them are endangered as per the Wildlife (protection) Act 1972. Some of them are Mugger Crocodile, Indian star tortoise, Indian soft shelled turtle, Four horned Antelope, Mouse deer, Black buck, Pea fowl, Blue Rock Pigeon, Red jungle fowl etc., Many exotic species were also bred like Ostrich and Silver pheasant.

The Jackals are breeding regularly in this zoo, recently exchanged a pair of Jackals to Nehru Zoological Park, Hyderabad with one pair of Jungle Cat.
