    Our Wild Journey

    • The Kakatiya Zoological Park was established in 16-01-1985, the then Governor of Andhra Pradesh Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma laid the foundation for this Wilderness area and named it as “Vana Vignan Kendra”.

    • Sri Muddu Krishnama Naidu, Minister of Forest and Environment has opened the Birds and Reptile enclosures to the Public in 1987.
    • This Kakatiya Zoological Park began expanding slowly with addition of new enclosures every year. Central Zoo Authority of India, New Delhi monitor the entire Zoos in India. CZA recognized the Vana Vigyana Kendra as a Mini Zoo in 2006. Due to good efforts for its development made by the Forest Department of the state, it was upgraded as Small Zoo by the Central Zoo Authority of India on 01.01.2014.
    • Proposals have been sent to the Central Zoo Authority of India, New Delhi for up gradation of this Zoo from Small Zoo to Medium Zoo category, it has the eligible parameters as per the Central Zoo Authority norms.
    • The name of Vana Vigyana Kendra (Small Zoo), Warangal has been renamed as Kakatiya Zoological Park by State ZAPAT Committee and Inaugurated by Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister of Telangana State on 01.03.2017.

    Vision is to protect, procure and conserve the diversity of wild animal species through ex-situ conservation.

    Our Mission

    1. To Educate the children and citizens about wildlife and environment through live displays and models, film shows, lectures, celebration of notational and international important days, organizing extracurricular activities etc.,
    2. To improve the conservation of rare and endangered species.
    3. To Rescue and rehabilitate wild animals, which accidentally stray into the human habitation and to Reduce the human animal conflict.
    4. Provide whole some recreation for the densely populated urban landscape.
    5. To exhibit the animals in a better way to its natural habitat.

    The Kakatiya Zoological Park is spread over an area of 19.22 Ha. & adjacent Hillock portion area is 17.79 Ha. Total area of the Zoo is 37.01 Ha. Under Survey No. 1018.

    Zoo Goals

    1. To promote wildlife consciousness and its conservation and Breeding.
    2. To create awareness about nature and its diversity
    3. To make people to understand environment needs and its protection.
    4. To rehabilitate the birds, animals and reptiles etc.,
    5. To exhibit the fauna in more naturalistic surroundings.
    6. To acquire vide spectrum of species, both indigenous & exotic and exhibit them in spacious enclosures.

    Location & Geography

    Location
    The Kakatiya Zoological Park, located on Hunter Road, Hanumakonda of Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation area of Telangana State in the middle of the Tri Cities of Warangal, Hanumakonda and Kazipet.

    Approach
    Kakatiya Zoological Park, Hanumakonda is easily accessible by road. It is 2 Kms from Hanumakonda Bus Stand and 4 Kms from Warangal Bus stand. The nearest Railway station is Kazipet, located 5 Kms away. Nearest Airport is Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Hyderabad at a distance of 140 km.

    Topography
    The topography of the park is gentle slope. With highest point located at the main gate and the lowest point located at the point where natural drain leaves the premises towards Padmakshi temple side. On its eastern side the Siddasamudram Lake is located which spreads over an area of 5 Acres.

    Boundries
    The Zoo Park area falls in territorial jurisdiction of Hanumakonda District. On North side – Human habitation (Balasamudram), South – Main Road (Hunter Road), Eastern side – Padmakshi temple area and some human habitations and Western side – Advocates colony. There was no habitation in the earlier years. In due course, the entire zoo is now surrounded by thickly populated habitations.

    Climate
    The climate is generally dry except during the monsoon season and it is characterized by hot summer. The year may be divided into the three seasons i.e. Summer (February to May), Rainy season (June to September) and Winter season (October to January).

    Rainfall
    The mean annual rainfall fluctuates between 600 mm to 850 mm. The maximum rainfall is received from South-West monsoon i.e. from July to September. July being the wettest month. On an average there are 40 rainy days in a year.

    Seasons

    1. The seasons in Hanumakonda: Summer (March – June), Monsoon (July – October) and Winter (Novermber – February). The city primarily observes warm climate, since monsoon showers appear behind schedule. The temperature goes down with the arrival of winter season. The temperature doesn’t change much with the change in season, thus providing a moderate temperature in the city.
    2. Temperature: during summer months the maximum temperature ranges 39˚- 48˚C. In winter, the minimum temperature ranges 12˚ – 16˚ C.
